Qurbani 2026 — One-sentence overview

Qurbani by proxy (Vekaleten Kurban) is the practice of authorizing a trusted organization to perform your ritual sacrifice during Eid al-Adha 2026 (May 27-30, 2026) in accordance with Islamic rites, with the meat distributed to families in need. Through Bakara 195, prices start at ₺18,000 for a sheep within Türkiye and ₺7,000 for an international share; cattle shares follow the same tariff. All payments are processed via Stripe (PCI-DSS Level 1, 256-bit SSL); your authorization certificate and donation receipt arrive by email within minutes.

  • Eid begins: Wed, May 27, 2026
  • Day of Arafah: Tue, May 26, 2026
  • Last call for proxy: Eid morning prayer
  • Slaughter window: Days 1-3 of Eid

2026 Qurbani Prices (Comparison)

Domestic prices follow the Türkiye Diyanet 2026 Qurbani tariff. International prices reflect lower local meat costs in target regions (Palestine, Syria, Somalia, Yemen, Bangladesh), allowing more families to be reached per donation. Each price covers animal cost (~82%), veterinary-supervised slaughter and processing (~11%), and logistics (~7%). Bakara 195 takes 0% management fee; the full amount goes to the field.

What is Qurbani? Religious Ruling

Qurbani (Arabic: Qurbān, "to draw near") is the ritual sacrifice of a permitted animal during Eid al-Adha to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail and Allah's replacement of the sacrifice with a ram (Surah As-Saffat 37:102-107). In the Hanafi school it is wajib (obligatory) on every adult, sane, resident Muslim possessing the nisab. Shafi'i, Maliki, and Hanbali schools classify it as sunnah mu'akkadah (highly emphasized sunnah).

For a sacrifice to be valid: (1) the owner must be Muslim, (2) the animal must be of a permitted species, (3) it must meet age requirements (sheep/goat ≥ 1 year, cattle ≥ 2 years, camel ≥ 5 years), and (4) it must be free of major defects (blindness, lameness, missing ear or tail). All Bakara 195 animals are veterinary-inspected and meet these conditions.

Rulings Across the Four Sunni Schools

SchoolRulingEligibility
HanafiWajib (obligatory)Sane adult Muslim possessing nisab, resident
Shafi'iSunnah mu'akkadahAny Muslim with means on Eid day
MalikiSunnah mu'akkadahAny Muslim able to sacrifice without borrowing
HanbaliSunnah mu'akkadahAny Muslim with means on Eid day

Bakara 195's proxy (vekalet) text is drafted per the Hanafi school (predominant in Türkiye), but the ritual slaughter procedure (basmala + cutting the jugular veins) is identical across all four schools, making the proxy valid for any madhab.

How Does the Share System Work?

Cattle (cow, water buffalo, camel) may be divided into up to 7 shares; each share fulfills one person's Qurbani obligation. This ruling is based on the hadith of Jabir: "At Hudaybiyyah we sacrificed with the Messenger of Allah, a camel for seven and a cow for seven" (Muslim, Hajj 351). Sheep and goats are not shareable; each is a single Qurbani for one person.

Co-shareholders need not share the same intention; one may intend Qurbani, another Aqiqah, a third a vow (Adak/Nadhr), all on the same animal. Commercial co-ownership invalidates the sacrifice — every shareholder must intend the act of worship.

Proxy (Vekalet) Authorization

Vekalet (Arabic: wakālah) is the appointment of an agent to perform a task on one's behalf. All four classical schools agree that Qurbani may be performed via proxy. Bakara 195 acts as your wakeel, performing the sacrifice on your behalf, distributing the meat per Islamic rules, and bearing the religious responsibility (shar'i mas'uliyyah) throughout.

For the proxy to be valid: (a) the principal (you) must be sane and adult, (b) the authorization must be explicit (written, spoken, or electronic confirmation), (c) the agent must accept the task. Checking "I have read and accept the proxy text" on Bakara 195 constitutes a valid wakālah contract; your timestamp is recorded with your donation.
