Where Your Money Goes
Sadaqah Jariyah — earn rewards for 20+ years as the well serves a community.
Tier system from $50 (share) to $5,000 (community well + reservoir).
Site selection prioritizes regions of greatest water-access need.
Construction progress photos, GPS coordinates, and water quality testing documented monthly.
Access to clean water is a foundational human need. Per UN-Water statistics, approximately 2.2 billion people lack safely managed drinking water, and waterborne diseases (cholera, dysentery, typhoid) cause hundreds of thousands of preventable deaths annually — disproportionately affecting children under five.
Bakara 195's water well program prioritizes regions of greatest need: sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and post-conflict zones in the Middle East. Site selection is done in coordination with local water authorities and humanitarian partners to ensure wells serve communities sustainably.
Every well, regardless of tier, is constructed to international hygienic standards. Hand-pump wells serve households; shallow wells serve small villages; deep wells with reservoirs serve entire communities for 20+ years. The Sadaqah Jariyah reward continues throughout the well's lifespan.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a water well last?+
Hand-pump wells typically last 10-15 years with regular maintenance. Shallow wells last 15-20 years. Deep wells with proper construction can serve a community for 25+ years. The Sadaqah Jariyah reward continues for the entire lifespan and beyond.
Where are wells built?+
Bakara 195 prioritizes wells in regions of greatest need: sub-Saharan Africa (Niger, Chad, Mali, Sudan, Somalia), South Asia (Bangladesh, parts of Pakistan), and post-conflict zones (Yemen, Syria). Specific project locations are announced before contributions are accepted for that project.
Why are wells Sadaqah Jariyah?+
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever digs a well will receive reward from Allah for it on the Day of Judgment when anyone amongst Jinns or humans or birds drinks from it." (Hadith — al-Mundhiri). Every drink from the well, every washing for prayer, every plant watered — contributes to ongoing reward.
Can I dedicate a well in someone's name?+
Yes. Wells of $1,000+ can be dedicated in honor or memory of a loved one. The dedication is recorded in the project archive and noted on the receipt. For wells of $2,500+, a physical plaque can be affixed (after 501(c)(3) status and full audit are obtained).
How is well construction verified?+
Each well project includes: pre-construction site survey, GPS coordinates, monthly construction progress photos, post-completion field photos showing the completed well in use, and water quality testing reports. All documentation is published in monthly transparency reports.
Is this Zakat-eligible?+
Water well construction itself is not eligible for Zakat (Zakat must go to specific recipient categories per Quran 9:60). However, wells qualify as Sadaqah Jariyah, Sadaqah, or general charity, all of which carry significant reward.
